Department of Pathology, Lab. Medicine, Transfusion Services & Immunohematology
This department was started in the form of a small lab in 1981.The department is engaged in diagnostic work that caters primarily to the institute and secondarily to health care centres from adjacent areas and states.
The department offers comprehensive, state of the art services in histopathology, cytology, hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, clinical pathology, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, electron microscopy studies and transfusion services in addition to immune profile for various autoimmune disorders.
Highly dedicated and skilled technicians work year-round (24 x7) in this department to support qualified Pathologists. This laboratory has also pioneered in the areas of transplantation tolerance and stem cell research for autoimmunity and alloimmunity in addition to study the evolution and natural history of various kidney diseases in India.
The department is the first recognized center of the country for Post doctoral certificate course in Renal and transplant pathology (PDCC). The certificates are given by the Indian College of Pathologists during the annual conference of the Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists. The course started in 2003 and currently has two seats per year under two guides.

Prof. Kamal V. Kanodia has been declared as Additional guide to PDCC (Renal Pathology) by the Indian College of Pathologists on 16 th December, 2016.

Prof. Aruna V. Vanikar was elected as the President of the Indian Society of Renal and Transplantation Pathology (ISRTP) for the year 2017-18 on 10th February, 2017 by the Executive Council of ISRTP in the 9th annual conference at AIIMS, Delhi.
